Patient Forms
As in any doctor's office you will need to fill out paperwork to provide us with your health history and information on your condition. These forms are located in the New Patient Center and may be printed and filled out prior to your visit.
Consultation
Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. Maryott to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. The goals of this consultation are to learn more about you and your condition, to determine if chiropractic is the best choice for your problem and to clarify your expectations about how chiropractic care can meet your goals.
Examination
After your consultation, Dr. Maryott will perform a complete chiropractic examination. This exam focuses on your joint flexibility and the strength and tone of your muscles. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests will be performed as well. However, nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
Diagnostic Imaging
Depending on the physical findings and the cause of your complaint, we may order X-rays or other imaging studies. X-rays give information regarding the alignment of the spine and the presence and extent of injury. They can also indicate whether long standing overuse or compensation have led to degenerative (arthritic) changes. Other imaging studies, such as MRI, CT or bone scan are typically not ordered unless treatment does not progress as anticipated.
Report of Findings
Once all the information from your consultation and examinations is collected Dr. Maryott will give you a detailed report of all findings and answer the following questions:
- What is the nature of the problem (diagnosis)?
- What can be done about it?
- If chiropractic treatment is appropriate, how long will it take and how much will it cost?
Treatment
If your condition is appropriate for chiropractic treatment and there are no complicating findings that require further testing, you can begin treatment on your first visit. Treatment will include spinal adjustments and/or soft tissue massage. If needed, other therapies may be used including ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, traction or exercise instruction. Your feedback is essential, so you can express your concerns and preferences about your treatment at anytime.
Home Care
Prior to leaving, the doctor will give you instructions about what you can do at home to help with your recovery. This may include: ice or heat application, certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches.
