Thumbs Up to Relief
If you're like most people, your first visit to a chiropractor is to get relief from pain. In our office we take this task very seriously. Some of the common conditions that Dr. Maryott treats are:
- low back pain
- leg pain (sciatica)
- stiff and painful neck (torticollis)
- pain radiating into the arm
- carpal tunnel syndrome
- headaches
- chest and mid back pain (intercostal neuralgia)
- acute joint and muscle pain (sports injuries)
- chronic joint and muscle pain (arthritis, fibromyalgia, old sports injuries)
- overuse syndromes (tennis elbow, rotator cuff, arch pain)
The first thing we do is give you a chance to tell us about your problem. Next Dr. Maryott palpates (touches) the area of pain and performs certain standard tests (which vary with the area and type of injury.) Next he examines your spine and other joints for proper mobility and checks your muscles for proper tone.
But the most important part of the exam is finding what movements increase or decrease your symptoms. If your pain can be reproduced by physical movement, this confirms that chiropractic care is appropriate for your condition. This confirmation is almost always accomplished on the first visit.
If chiropractic seems appropriate and there is no evidence that your condition might be complicated by a serious pathology such as fracture or underlying disease, treatment will start immediately. If the exam findings do not indicate that your condition is appropriate for this office you may be referred to a specialist.
